Part 4 of the series today covers the bedrooms and closets of your home.

Simple updates here can go a long way and cost little or no money at all.  First thing is first, clean!  Your bedrooms must be clean and free of clutter.  No piles of laundry, toys, etc.  The beds should be neatly made.  If you do not have a pretty comforter set, you might consider buying one.  Remember you are not leaving it behind when you sell, you are just decorating your new home.

If your master bedroom is also housing your workout equipment, you might consider relocating it to a dedicated room or the garage.  You want the master to feel like a true retreat.  Don’t forget to clean the windows in here and if you have curtains, get those cleaned as well.  It is amazing how much dust can gather up on window treatments and furnishings.  Does your pet sleep in your room?  You might consider a temporary home for your pet while your home is on the market.  Not everyone loves your dog or cat or bird as much as you do.  Let’s face it, even the cleanest pet still has an odor from time to time.  Clean and fresh is the name of the game when selling your home.

Take a good look at the floor.  How does the carpet look?  Can it be salvaged with a good cleaning?  If not replace it.  Don’t think that you can offer a decorating allowance and not replace it.  Just pick a nice neutral shade and go for it.  There are too many homes on the market that do not require any work, and if you need new carpet you will lose the sale or get offers so low it is offensive.

Remember to remove personal photos and artwork that would distract buyers.  We are selling your home, not your stuff.  Check to make sure your paint is in good shape and a neutral color.  Bedrooms work well with neutral tans or even blues.

Series to be continued….
